I started off the unit graphing whether students thought bats were creepy or cute. We completed K-W-L chart. We will complete the L as we learn. Then, we watched a video from youtube called Bats, Bats, Bats. Its a very catchy song. I read the book, "Bats" by Lily Wood from Scholastic. We used yarn to demonstrate how small the bumblebee bat is which is the smallest bat and how large the flying fox bat is which is the largest bat. Students made bats out of construction paper. They turned out so cute. They were very different just like the close to 1000 species of bats. We read several books I made about bats. We watched Magic School Bus Goes Batty. It was wonderful!! And I didn't go batty just got a little creeped out.
Creativity at it's best.
Of course they had to hang upside down.
Gotta love all the colors
The students wrote super sentences. We started out with the sentence, The bat flew. Look how super their sentence turned out. We colored a bat and posted our super sentence. Writing is so much fun! We had fun and learned a lot.
